India's Elite 500, ranked from a final cohort of 1,000.
SITARA 500 is WCRC's ranking of India's Elite 500 schools for the 2025–26 Edition. The final cohort of 1,000 SITARA Finalists was selected on published evidence of elite standing. Each finalist is now being researched on the SITARA framework. The 500 that meet the standard will be named, graded and ranked in January 2027.
From 1,000 finalists to the locked SITARA 500
How the 1,000 become the Elite 500
- Entry: 1,000 finalists chosen on published evidence of elite standing.
- Integrity Gates: five checks on official records before any score.
- Research: 30 indicators across six dimensions, each with a dated source and an Evidence Ladder grade.
- Scoring: a SITARA Score out of 1,000, compared like with like by curriculum and school type.
- Checks: a 21-day fact check, 1,000 re-runs under the Confidence Rule, Council review and an outside audit.
- Release: India's Elite 500 named, graded and ranked in January 2027.

SITARA Finalists in every city
Elite schools cluster in India's great cities and in its historic school towns. Choose a city to see its finalists and why each is there. City rankings are published with the SITARA 500 in January 2027.
What makes a school elite
SITARA stands for School Institutional Assessment, Research & Analytics. It is WCRC's own standard. It measures six dimensions of a school through 30 indicators, worth 100 weight points in all. The dimensions stay the same every year, so a school's progress can be followed over time.
Every fact is graded by how it can be checked
| Rung | Evidence | Counts at |
|---|---|---|
| L1 Verified Record | Issued by an official authority | 100% |
| L2 Independent | Published by an independent third party | 100% |
| L3 Declaration | The school's own published information, consistent with other sources | 80% |
| L3− Unreconciled | Conflicts with another source | 50% |
| L4 Unsupported | Brochure copy, paid awards | 0% |
Five tests before any score
- Standing: recognition and affiliation current, no withdrawal or open show-cause notice in 3 years.
- Attendance: no official finding of non-attending enrolment.
- Safety and conduct: no official adverse finding on child safety, fees or recognition.
- Disclosure: statutory public disclosures exist and are current.
- Truthfulness: no material false statement in published evidence.
Gates use official records only. Media reports and allegations are never used.
The principles above every rule
Published before measured. Every rule and weight is fixed before research begins.
Evidence, not assertion. A claim no one can check scores nothing.
Missing is not failing. Absent evidence is recorded as absent, never as a low score.
Like with like. Results are compared within the same curriculum and school type.
Precision only where earned. An exact rank is given only where it holds under testing.
Every error corrected in public. Corrections are logged with date and reason.
How India's Elite 500 is ranked
The SITARA 500 ranks India's Elite 500 schools from the final cohort of 1,000 SITARA Finalists. Every finalist is researched in full from published records, on the six SITARA dimensions and 30 indicators. Researchers score each indicator against its evidence, the scores are tested and audited, and only schools that meet the SITARA standard are named and ranked. The ranking is locked and released in January 2027.
Entry on elite evidence
A school enters the 1,000 on published evidence in one of five groups: Global Benchmark (CIS, IB Diploma, Cambridge, BSA UK), Elite Association (IPSC, Round Square), Premier Standing, Recognised Premium, and Public & Social Excellence. No school enters by name, payment or relationship.
Integrity Gates
Every finalist must pass the five gates on official records. A school that fails a gate is not scored this edition and is never named for it.
Full research on 30 indicators
Researchers record each indicator with its source, a dated copy and its Evidence Ladder rung. A second researcher re-checks a random 10% of schools. Sources are published records only: official data, independent registers and the school's own published information.
Scoring
Each indicator is scored 0 to 4, weighted and discounted by its evidence rung, then combined into a SITARA Score out of 1,000. Each dimension also gets a score out of 100.
indicator points = weight × (level ÷ 4) × evidence rung
SITARA Score = points ÷ weight evidenced × 1,000 × (0.9 + 0.1 × coverage)Fact check
Each scored school sees its evidence sheet, every fact and its source, and has 21 days to correct facts with evidence. It does not see its score.
The Confidence Rule
Before any rank is released the scoring is re-run 1,000 times, varying weights and cut-offs. A school gets an exact rank only if it stays within 10 places in 90% of runs. Otherwise it shares a band such as "=21–30".
Council sign-off and release
The independent SITARA Council approves the results and an outside auditor re-runs the scoring. The SITARA 500 is then locked and released in January 2027.
What a school needs
| To be | The school needs |
|---|---|
| Scored | All four core indicators (board results, transparency, teacher ratio, wellbeing) and 60% of the weight evidenced |
| Named in the SITARA 500 | 70% of the weight evidenced and a SITARA Score of 600 or more |
| Ranked | 80% evidenced, every dimension covered, half the score on verified evidence, three board cohorts |
The 500 is a ceiling, not a quota. If fewer schools reach the standard, fewer are named.

How far WCRC has verified the entry
High: entry evidence confirmed online at its source.
Medium: evidence published and consistent; final checks in progress.
Building: evidence being gathered and confirmed in final evaluation.
Confidence describes WCRC's research progress, not the school's quality.
What families say, 0–100
Signed-in parents rate their child's school on the six SITARA dimensions. Pulse appears once a school has at least 10 parent ratings, so no individual can be identified.
Pulse is shown beside the rank and never counts towards it.

The details behind Parent Pulse
- Your role: parent, student (18+), alumni or teacher.
- Your child's school: one school per account, so each family counts once.
- Your child's stage: primary, middle or senior. We never ask for a child's name.
- Six ratings: one for each SITARA dimension, from 1 to 5, and whether you would recommend the school.
Your ratings are combined with others and shown only as a school average once 10 or more parents have rated it. Your profile is private to you.
